Italy Week at Zeppoli’s
July 24th - July 28th is Italy Week at Zeppoli’s! This has been a tradition for us and we are now on our fourth annual Italy Week! During this week, we have a special menu featuring authentic Italian dishes from Italian regions. Let’s take a look into some of the food items and where they originated!
Have you ever wondered where Lasagna specifically originated? The first recorded recipe has been found as far back as the 14th century. However, what could be considered as the most well-known variation in the world traces back to the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna and is referred to as ‘Lasagne al Forno’. This name refers to the familiar layered dish made with a thick ragù and bechamel sauce, ricotta or mozzarella cheese, typically flavored with wine, onion, and oregano. Fried Mozzarella, another popular menu item, originated in Campania. Chicken parm? Well, that’s an American creation.
Our menu this week has very special authentic Italian dishes. One of those being Bistecca alla Florentine! This special feature is from Tuscany. The Florentine steak is one of the most excellent dishes of Tuscan cuisine. Its tradition, celebrity, and name can be traced back to the celebration of the feast of Saint Lawrence on August 10th and to the House of Medici. The story goes that visiting English knights really appreciated the delicious taste of the dish, and still wanting it, they shouted loudly in their language “beef steak!” The Florentines immediately named the meat "bistecca."
Check out the menu below and see where each food item was originated! We hope to see you this week to celebrate!
