Homemade Marina Sauce

Have you ever tried to master your own homemade marinara sauce and couldn’t quite get it right? No worries! We got a few tips that’ll be sure to make your made-from-scratch marinara sauce mouth-watering.

More often than not, marinara recipes call for tomato paste instead of fresh tomatoes. However, if you have a tomato garden in your backyard or just prefer to use the freshest of ingredients in your homemade creations, we recommend using real tomatoes.

Here’s a few tips when making your homemade fresh tomato marinara sauce:

  1. Look for Roma or San Marzano tomatoes to use as these are meatier and have less water content, meaning they will get you the thick sauce you want for less cooking time.

  2. When you’re ready to make it, heat a touch of oil in a pot and then add some garlic. Then, throw in your diced fresh tomatoes and let everything simmer. (This is going to break these tomatoes down into a smooth sauce and remove those sour tones, while also increasing the concentration of lycopene, one of the most potent antioxidants!) Once you’ve cooked down the tomatoes into your desired thickness and consistency, add in your flavor makers!

  3. Even though this marinara sauce will be a bit chunky, you can easily make it into a smooth and silky marinara by sticking it in the blender!
