Celebrating 9 Years of Our Owners

Zeppoli’s originally opened in October of 1996, the same week of National Pasta Day. Our first owners wanted to create an Italian restaurant that featured something they felt was lacking in many of the chain-type restaurants – fresh, made from scratch, real Italian cuisine.

Shortly after opening, Zeppoli’s expanded its wine selections and opened a retail shop in the lobby of the restaurant. By offering its customers reasonably priced wines from around the world, they are able to truly enhance your dining experience.

During spring game weekend in 2015, a new chapter began for Zeppoli's Restaurant and Wine Shop as the torch was passed and Cody Thompson and Chris Mullens made the decision to purchase the restaurant. Today, as we celebrate our 9th year at the helm of this beloved establishment, we reflect on the remarkable moments, challenges overcome, and the unwavering support of our community that has made it all possible.

Cody's journey with Zeppoli's is one deeply rooted in dedication and passion. Having started as a host back in 2008, he worked his way through various roles, from server to, ultimately assuming the position of manager, to now owner. His steadfast commitment, paired with Chris's expertise as the Kitchen Manager of a nearby local establishment, Abby's, laid the foundation for the success that was to come.

The heartbeat of Zeppoli's has always been its community—a sentiment we hold dear to our hearts. From day one, we've been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and warmth from our patrons, neighbors, and friends. It's this sense of belonging and camaraderie that fuels our drive to not only sustain but to thrive.

The road to our 9th anniversary hasn't been without its challenges, especially navigating operating a small business during the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, with resilience and determination, we weathered the storm, adapting our operations with the opening of Blacksburg Catering to ensure the safety of our staff and patrons while continuing to serve the community.

For us, owning a restaurant isn't just about business—it's about creating opportunities, fostering connections, and upholding traditions. Each day presents a new adventure, a new opportunity to innovate and evolve while staying true to our roots.

Today, as we stand on the precipice of another year, we are immensely grateful for the unwavering support of our community. With the invaluable assistance of Mariah Thompson and Jim Parker, our dedicated managers, we continue to uphold the legacy of Zeppolis while embracing new culinary horizons and innovative events.

Here's to nine remarkable years of Zeppoli's—a testament to the power of community, perseverance, and a shared love for exceptional food and hospitality. Join us on Monday, April 15 to enjoy $15 Vodka Rigatoni and 15% off all menu items as we raise our glasses to the journey ahead!
